The Facilities
Prigen Conservation Breeding Ark (PCBA) is a the conservation unit of Taman Safari Prigen. In this unit, there are enclosure complexes to care for endangered Indonesian species.
Songbird
Unit 1
Consists of 24 aviaries with a dimension of 4mx2mx3m which are well-planted. Each of these units is connected with each other via flight tunnels over the keeper's hallway. This unit has a pre-release facility, a nursery, and a small office.
Unit 2
This unit has 26 + 2 added aviaries. They have a dimension of 4mx2mx3m which are also well-planted and are connected with each other via flight tunnels over the keeper's hallway. Six aviaries in this unit have concrete floors that are dedicated to Hill Mynas and Parrots for hygiene keeping. Besides that, this unit is also equipped with a toilet+shower, a preparation room, and a pre-release facility.
This unit has 46 aviaries with a dimension of 2mx2mx3m in all-wired cages. These aviaries have concrete floors and only partly planted. They are also connected via slide doors. This unit is a facility for pairing, juvenile care, and general holding. It is where the main kitchen is located, along with storage, and insects and mice breeding facilities.
Unit 4
Consists of two different rows of aviaries. One row has 11 aviaries with a dimension of 2.5mx2.5mx3m that are connected with each other via slide doors. This row of aviaries is designed to allow for better breeding of Starlings and Leafbirds. This row also allows for individual keeping when necessary.
The other row has 11 aviaries with a dimension of 7mx2.5mx5m which are specially designed for the breeding of sensitive pairs. This row also makes ecologically suitable husbandry possible.
Unit 5 and 6
Each of these units has one row of 31 aviaries with a dimension of 3mx1.5mx3m and the other row has 31 aviaries with a dimension of 2.5mx1.5mx3m. All aviaries in both units are fully roofed. Each aviary is connected with the others via slide doors. This design will enable proper husbandry for sensitive species such as the White-eyes.
Unit 5 and Unit 6
Unit 5
Javan Small-toothed Palm Civet
The first enclosure complex for the civet consists of eight enclosures with a dimension of 2mx4mx3m with concrete floors. Each enclosure is equipped with a sleeping box and climbing structures. In 2023, we completed the construction of the second which consists of 16 enclosures. What makes these complexes outstanding is that they are both connected to each other via outdoor tunnels, which allows for smooth migration of the civets when needed.
This is a large and elaborate complex that has plenty of rooms and enclosures. The unit which houses the Javan Warty Pigs consists of five enclosures which include 5 large outdoor areas, 10 indoor areas, and four paddocks. All enclosures are interconnected via slide doors. The outside areas are very well-planted.
Consists of 16 aviaries with a dimension of 4.5mx2mx4m. All of the aviaries have concrete floors and are connected with each other via slide doors. This unit also has a kitchen.
Consists of 21 aviaries, nine of which are with a dimension of 6mx2mx3m which will house larger Parrots such as the Cockatoos. The remaining 12 aviaries have a dimension of 3mx1.5mx3m which will house smaller Parrots, such as the Lorys.
WPA Galliformes Unit
This unit is a donation from World Pheasant Association (WPA) to house endangered Galliformes species in Indonesia. It consists of 8 interconnected enclosures that support various conditions to care for and breed Galliformes.
Augsburg Songbirds Unit
This unit is donated by Augsburg Zoo as its dedication to improving the songbird crisis in Indonesia. It consists of 12 enclosures of two different sizes.
Black Water Fish Room
The first black water fish room is established within the Javan warty pig area. In this room, there are 40 fish tanks of different sizes to keep different species of black water fish. Then in 2022, another fish room was built behind the main office. This facility consists of 20 ponds and 140 aquaria.
Rainbowfish Ponds
This facility is a cluster of eight ponds that are equipped with filters. These ponds are designed to allow for natural sunlight to reach up to the bottom of the pond and easy observation through side glass window on each pond.
Sulawesi Freshwater Fish Room
It is a fish room with more than 150 fish tanks of different sizes to house freshwater fish that require basal water conditions.
Bawean Warty Pig
Other than the Javan warty pig enclosure, PCBA also has completed the construction of the Bawean warty pig’s enclosure. This enclosure consists of 10 enclosures, with each having indoor, outdoor and paddock areas. An adequate kitchen is also provided in this enclosure.
Office and Security Tower
The main office of PCBA is located in the front area. It has a small conference room and a general office area. Besides that, this office is also equipped with a small shower and toilet, and a small kitchen. A security tower is next to it in which the security staff is daily stationed 24/7.
